Any plans for a new version of Kaltura CE?

Version 1.5 has been out for a while. Is there any plan to release a newer version? Is there a place where once can see a roadmap? Looks like this project is stale.

I would love to know too. I've been on the Kaltura.com side and got zero support feedback, and here on the .org side I see that things are sparsely documented and very inactive. Before I get involved in setting up a server and all I'd like to know what's happening....

I'm on the mailing list for the commercial side, and attended a recent webinar which included university partners on integration projects. My perception is that, like a lot of these sorts of tools out there, the big push seems to be for the commercial, off-site hosting service. Can't fault them, frankly. But this open-source project seems to be pretty unique, that is, I haven't seen anything else which does what this free install does...or at least proports to do. I'd hate to see it go away, and if it isn't going to be updated to reflect changes in the industry, that's going to be a biggie for us.

Yes, but anything, no matter how unique or cutting edge it is, is a useless waste of time without support...

And by the way, the commercial side is not better. I sent 2 support requests totally unanswered...

I found out a post, in which kaltura team said that a next version of KalturaCE is coming on a few weeks.

I also think the project is not up-to-date and support is missing in the CE. However, Kaltura project seems interesting to be followed up. Perhaps, they change their strategy regarding to the community in a near future.

Yeah, support and documentations are real disaster. I have not a single problem solved by asking in the forum or searching documentation. My installation works, excluding few issues, that are unanswered.

The new Version was scheduled to be here this month. The Drupal module was supposed to be here almost two months ago.

I'm feeling you guys... We've put aside website upgrades until the new Kaltura CE (nicknamed Andromeda) comes out. The wait is impacting my site big time. If it doesn't come out in a few weeks, I will be forced to go with other providers. :(

Dang.... I can't leave Kaltura... it's just too good!! I just came across more information on the new Andromeda version:

I've also noticed that the existing Windows version is 32 bit only. I'm wondering if 64 is in the works as a part of the new release.

I really don't want to be a beggar, but can somebody Please share information on the Exact date the new Kaltura CE will be released?

I'm hearing from Papyromancer that he heard in the IRC that the new CE will be out in the next two weeks, in time for OSCON

Your explanation makes sense the most. I bet that's when it'll come out!

I would agree with the lack of feedback/communication. I notified them of a potential security issue (which is stopping me implementing Kaltura in a university) but have heard nothing about it since. A little disappointing.
I think I could end up implementing my own solution instead.

What's really odd is that I've talked to three sales reps from the dot.com side, and got a presentation from one of them. A request for a quote is still pending after almost a month, even with several email reminders. Seems like they don't want to sell anything, either. Weirdest thing I've ever seen.

What security hole is that? I'm about to move forward with a CE install, and need to know these things...

I mentioned it here:
http://www.kaltura.org/varwww
but sent more detail to the actual 'contact us' address. I received the following reply on 26th April but no mention since:

Hi,
Thanks a lot – we're on it.
Ido

I'm sure it is easily fixed either in the server config or the application design. I was able to retrieve database login details from mine and 2 other Kaltura installations by requesting:
http://yourdomain.tld/kalturaCE/kaltura/api_v3/config/database.ini
I was also able to find the database details in installation log files also within the webroot/htdocs. I was holding back in case anyone used this info for the wrong purposes but maybe an open discussion could move things along. Is it even a security issue?
I hadn't actually come up with any .htaccess rules to protect against it as I had some show stopping problems with my install (see earlier post) so I have not pursued Kaltura for my organisation.
Happy to discuss,
jonny
