Does Kaltura support F4V files? I'm presuming not seeing as the KMC won't let me upload them...
When Kaltura says it supports "high definition" files, is it referring to just frame size?
Can you currently upload F4V files using the API?
Also the KMC says "Please check here if any content needs to be included in remixes (not available for HD content)".
Does this mean that the editors don't support HD content? Will this always be the case?
Hi Chris,
Kaltura as a video platform, makes the full effort to support all formats.
While the player does support the F4V format, only the next version of the KMC will provide the ability to upload F4V and reserve the format (meaning, don't perform transcoding to FLV). Same goes is for H.264 mp4 files.
So when we say we support high def. - we do mean every bit of it, frame sizes, bit-rates and conversion profiles, on h.264 under mp4 or F4V containers and more. For the UI part the next KMC version will allow the by-pass transcoding to these formats (like by-pass FLV currently in KMC) so that you will be able to encode the files locally to f4v or other format and use it in the player.
If you are a professional services customer, this can be done for you today by the professional service team.
Being a self-hosted user - the new KMC will be released near the end of the summer, then you will be able to control the transcoding and completely by-pass it to use your own f4v files.
