We can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with, in the meantime, here are some ideas that we thought of to get your brain wheels turning:

  • Kaltura Dynamic Player (KDP) module to provide game interactivity within the video
  • Additional plugins to the Kaltura Advanced Editor (KAE), create your own custom video transitions, overlays or effects
  • A customized gallery that integrates with the KDP
  • OpenX integration to KalturaCE to provide in-house ad serving for the self-hosted Open Source KalturaCE server
  • Create your own AIR® Desktop Video Player or port the KDP to run on the desktop

Timeline

  • July 22nd - Challenge begins
  • October 20th - Final date for submission - Competition closes, Voting continues
  • November 11th - Winners will be announced at a cool Kaltura developers meetup in New York!

Guidelines for an impressive solution

  • Upload your code to the Kaltura.org repository under your project folder (details on the project page).
  • Take a look at some of the existing Kaltura Applications to get an idea of certified projects – the KDP project, WordPress and Drupal extensions are a good examples.
  • Create a short and easy installation wizard. Consider short and understandable user flows.
  • Create a full integration, embed and usage guide, and consider various ways the application can be extended by others.
  • Discuss it with the community, search for ideas out-of-the-box, answer a real need.
