Idle frame

Does the media upload and conversion use the first frame in a video to make it the player idle frame (the image that displays below the play button when someone sees the player for the first time)

Is that something that can be configured? I'm using the free version that hosts up to 10GB of video. Or this is an option for the stand alone version only?

My problem is that I'm allowing site visitors to upload their own videos to the site, and they may upload videos that start with a black frame, therefore making the idle frame a black frame, which isn't very inviting.

Any help is welcome.

Thanks.

Guys at Kaltura, can you please answer how this works? Thanks,

Hi,

Are you talking about the thumbnail? If that is the case, it can be configured via the editor.

Yes, the thumbnails. The issue is that we're letting visitors to upload videos to the site (we integrated TDOMF plugin with All in One to make that possible), and they may upload a video that has a black frame as the first frame of the video, making the resulting video thumbnail a black frame. You say that is able to be configured through the editor in Kaltura control panel AFTER the video has been uploaded? Would I be able to switch the black thumbnail with a different image if I wanted to? I could not find the option in Kaltura control panel...

Thanks!

Never mind, I just found it.

For other people in need to do the same thing:
1) Login to Control Panel
2) Click on Content tab at the top
3) Look for the desired video that needs thumbnail to be changed
4) Click on video name
5) Drag video player seek control until you see a frame that could work as thumbnail
6) Click on Camera icon next to Kaltura logo in video player (tooltip says "use current frame as the video thumbnail")
7) That's it.

Now, it would be great if my end users could do that in All in One Video plugin at the frontend, so the admin user does not have to do this for every video with a black frame at the start ... :-)

Thanks guys, you're doing a really great job.
