Thank you for providing nice plugin for Moodle.

Today we successfully installed Kaltura and Kaltura-Moodle plug-in on a same server, and configured plug-in settings on admin menu.

But when I try to add Kaltura Video resource, nothing appears on lightbox aftger clicking "Add Video" button.

It seems there is some communication issue between moodle plug-in and Kaltura installation.

Is it possible to install with local installation of Kaltura CE?

Or should we use account on kaltura.com?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Cheers,
Hiro

You can use it with CE.
Can you elaborate more about the problem you are having?

For trial purposes, you might prefer to try it out with Kaltura.com

Hi Hiroki,

Please describe the installation process you went through, detailing the url you used for the KalturaCE server and the partner details.
Also, please try to open an http sinffer (like FireBug or Fiddler) while you open the lightbox, see if you get any 404 or unloaded pages/urls.

Thank you for your reply.

I installed it with the following process;

1. Get Kaltura plugin with wget command on Linux server(CentOS4.7/Apache2/PHP5.2/MySQL5)and unzip it.
2. Copy kaltura module files under moodleroot/mod directory.
3. Copy assignment/type under moodleroot/mod/assignment/type directory.
4. Copy resource/type/kalturavideo and kalturaswfdoc under moodleroot/mod/resource/type directory.
5. Login to Moodle as admin and click Notification link.
6. Database tables were created for kaltura plugin.
7. Go to kaltura plugin setting on admin menu.
8. Input URI for Kaltura CE installation (http://openlms.learningdesign.jp/kaltura) , admin email, password.
# This page only appears before input parameters and never appears after submit config data.
9. Go to course and select "video" from add resource menu.
10. Resoruce editing page appears.
11. Input resource name and click "Add video".
12. Lightbox layer appears and nothing displayed. No 404 error with Firebug. Also no error message on httpd error_log.

Kaltura CE works fine when accessing kmc directory with the browser.

Thanks again.

Hi,
I've read your post and I'm having problems with uploading Kaltura plugin;
after I : - Copy kaltura module files under moodleroot/mod directory,
- Copy assignment/type under moodleroot/mod/assignment/type directory,
and copy resource/type/kalturavideo and kalturaswfdoc under moodleroot/mod/resource/type directory

it appears this messagge to me:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONST, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/elerng/public_html/mod/kaltura/lib.php on line 14

What does it mean? Help please

Thanks in advance

What is your Kaltura CE Version?

I am having the same problem. KalturaCE is installed and works fine ( also with other integrations like Wordpress etc.)

The kaltura moodle activity was very simple to install. However I did notice that it only accepts the setup information for the parent account (Parent ID=1) of my CE installation and will not install correctly for any of the sub-accounts on my kaltura CE installation.

Here is an example of the info that I used during the install:
Url: http://kaltura.myserver.org/kalturaCE
user: mail@myserver.de
password: mypassword

The moodle module seems to be installed correctly. I can see the new resources in Moodle but when I try to add a resource and I click the "Add Video" or "Add Editable Video" I only get a white screen. It seems like the flash movie is not loading correctly. I do not get any errors from the Moodle debugging or from Firebug while connecting. If I right-mouse-click the white area I get the messages "About flash" and above that "film not loaded".

I have now installed the module on moodle 1.9.5, 1.9.6 & 1.9.7, all have the same prob

I have also double checked some settings in Moodle. "Embed-Tags" for Flash etc are enabled for Teachers and the Trusted-User-Content system is activated but I still have the same problem. Do I have to make any other changes here?

How can I find the exact version of my current KalturaCE server? I cannot find it anywhere on the management console.

Many thanks

Hi All...

Just a heads up...after installing the beta module for Moodle, the log in page for moodle does not draw on the screen completely. This occurs only in Windows Internet Explorer. Firefox draws the log-in page fine. This is on a Moodle ver 1.9.5 server.

I went and removed the folders from "assignment," then "kaltura" from mod, and finally the Kalturaswfdoc and kalturavide and the log in page then would appear in browser on refresh. My hunch is there was something in either the kalturaswfdoc folder or kalturavideo folder that was causing the log in page to not draw completely.

Users would be able to still log in if they tried, however the fields for username was only visible by the slightest top margin of the web form.

I am still having the same problem when trying to connect to our kalturaCE server from Moodle.

The moodle module is installed correctly. I can see the new resources in Moodle but when I try to add a resource and I click the "Add Video" or "Add Editable Video" I only get a white screen. It seems like the flash movie is not loading correctly. If I right-mouse-click the white area I get the messages "About flash" and above that "film not loaded".

I have turned on debugging in Moodle and get the following error under Admin>>Modules>>Activities>>Manage Activities.

Table 'lmsmoodle.mdl_kaltura' doesn't exist
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM mdl_kaltura WHERE course<>0

line 686 of lib/dmllib.php: call to debugging()
line 379 of lib/dmllib.php: call to get_recordset_sql()
line 362 of lib/dmllib.php: call to count_records_sql()
line 228 of admin/modules.php: call to count_records_select()

This is quite strange because during the installation I get the message that the table mdl_kaltura was created successfully?

Could this be causing the problem?

I get to the part where you load (as admin) /admin/module.php?module=kaltura, and get a near-blank page. The only content on the page is
"Be careful modifying these settings - strange values could cause problems."

Seeing as this is my first attempt to install this under moodle, I'm taking it that something went wrong.

Specs:
Debian squeeze
Moodle 1.8.2
kaltura moodle plugin alpha 0.95
Viewed using firefox initially, same results under IE.

Hi,
Just to say I have the same problem. Turned on debugging in Moodle; it told me mod/kaltura/styles.php was missing its $CFG object, so I added a require_once('..\..\config.php'); ... it doesn't complain now but it still gives me an empty light box.

Kaltura on Windows + Moodle 1.9.5+

I'm also getting the error
[Mon Feb 01 11:14:29 2010] [error] [client 192.168.1.7] PHP Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in G:\\htdocs\\moodle\\lib\\blocklib.php on line 430, referer: http://moodle-test-server.bolton.ac.uk/course/modedit.php?add=resource&t...

... Whether that's relevent or not, I don't know. Will try upgrading Moodle to see if that helps

Hello, working with firebug I've looked that between the playerID in the sample page of Kaltura and the playerID in Moodle (when you click add video) there was a difference.
I've edited the moodle mysql table called config plugins and I've changed the value of the player record with the ID that I've found in the sample page.

At the moment I've tested only add video, but i hope that work also with other
this are the ID in moodle table that I've changed for now and work for me:
id plugin name value
180 kaltura uploader_regular 36200
181 kaltura uploader_mix 36200
183 kaltura player_regular_dark 48410
184 kaltura player_regular_light 48411

I think that I need to change also the other value but I need to find the coorect playerID.

I've found another difference. During my research I've looked that the string to the player in moddle is "http://*your.site*/kwidget/wid/_1/uiconf_id/" + playreId + "/entry_id/" + entryId, "divClip", "400", "332", "9", "#ffffff")" but in the sample page is ""http://*your.site*/kwidget/wid/_1/ui_conf_id/......"
There's a difference uiconf_id vs. ui_conf_id
I've searched and found this difference only in lib.php in mod/kaltura, maybe it's possible that I need to change also this, but I'm not sure.

I hope that will be usefull.
Thanks to all for the suggetion I've found for installing Kaltura and Moodle plugin and expecially to the Kaltura staff that have develop a very great application.

Thanks a million maxzunio, your suggestions got my integration up and running!!!

I noticed that the Kaltura Presentation mod is not working correctly, the upload document button has no action. I was wondering if this is because it also has the wrong ID. Does this work for you?

You mentioned in your thread that you used a Sample installation to find out the correct ID's. Where can I find the sample installation?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hello Dave, but today my VPN is down and I can't reach with RDP my kaltura server. I've foud only that with different ID the integration work, but I've tried only with this ID. Maybe, but im not sure, if we look inside kaltura database we can find more id, or if we want we can create more new player.
I'm sorry but i've not the sample installation, but i've used the sample page inside the CE version.
I hope to work around my server tomorrow.

Thank you maxzunio!!

Your fix worked very well and I could load flash player with correct player ID.

Also it's possible to add video as an resource and play on Moodle.

I'll check other functionss later.

Thank you!
You were correct about the uiconf IDs; these will be the same for all CE installs. They are also found in kaltura_settings.php, but I don't think those are used.
Also found that the moodle plugin won't work if your kaltura isn't at the root of the webserver. But when you do install kaltura to the root, it doesn't register properly and you have to copy content\uiconf.template to content\uiconf. Seems like there is no easy way of getting it all to work without several cludges... but then we are in beta! :-)

Hello, the same for me, I've copied the content of uiconf.template.
My server run under win32/xampp, but now when I upload the video it still remain in the queue. I've tried with deleting the file inside xampp\htdocs\batchwatch, but now batchDownloadVideoServer won't start.

Yes, the path is in win path. Ater deleting the file and restart all the process it work. I need to do this 3 times. But today I'm not in my office and from the train the connection is so slow.

I'm a stupid because I've not remembered to create a crown in order to start the batch.
I've also reinstalled kaltura in subdir then it work immeditely without renaming the uiconf.template
Now I need to uderstand how implement webcam record and why the sinchronization with document don't work in moodle.

Using the suggestions from maxzunio above, I was able to get the kaltura_video and kaltura_assignment modules in Moodle working.

I noticed that the Kaltura_Presentation module in Moodle is only partially working. It allows the user to upload a Video but the upload_documet button has no function! I assume this is the same problem with the wrong ID (1003069). Does anyone know the correct ID or a workaround?

Do I need a specific version of Kaltura installed to use the upload_doc function?
Do I need to install additional software for conversion services?

Here is a list of the id's, does anyone know the correct IDs/Value for KalturaCE servers?

| 31 | kaltura | uploader_regular | 36200 | correct
| 32 | kaltura | uploader_mix | 36200 | ???
| 33 | kaltura | editor | 1002226 | ???
| 34 | kaltura | player_regular_dark | 48410 | correct
| 35 | kaltura | player_regular_light | 48411 | correct
| 36 | kaltura | player_mix_dark | 1002259 | ???
| 37 | kaltura | player_mix_light | 1002260 | ???
| 38 | kaltura | video_presentation | 1003069 | ???

Hi there, does anyone have a complete list of the ID #'s?

| 31 | kaltura | uploader_regular | 36200 | correct
| 32 | kaltura | uploader_mix | 36200 | ???
| 33 | kaltura | editor | 1002226 | ???
| 34 | kaltura | player_regular_dark | 48410 | correct
| 35 | kaltura | player_regular_light | 48411 | correct
| 36 | kaltura | player_mix_dark | 1002259 | ???
| 37 | kaltura | player_mix_light | 1002260 | ???
| 38 | kaltura | video_presentation | 1003069 | ???

After install things seem to work but the "lightbox" has the buttons below the screen area, you cant get to them.

I thought maybe it might be because I used the original ID's for the ones with the ???

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, thanks for your help. I tried using those values but the light box window is still "cutoff" on the screen.

If you look at the screen shot that I took you will see what I mean. Strange. It is like the box is not the right size for the opening or the other way round.

I wonder if there are settings for the player size somewhere? I havent been able to locate.

Thanks

We had a similar problem. Have you tried using a standard moodle theme? If this solves the problem then you will need to update your existing theme.

Smyth, thanks for your comments, unfortunately our moodle theme is very customized.

I will look into the theme though, hopefully it wont take a lot of time. I have spent quite a bit of time on this already.

I have the same problem -- did you find a solution?

I'm not using any customized themes, per se, but our Moodle is hosted by and integrated with our student information system, Focus-SIS (which generally runs extremely well and it's so nice to have Moodle integrated with our SIS).

You can see what the window is SUPPOSED to look like at this video on YouTube which I think is well done:

Hi Max,

You need to install a Red5 streaming server to get the webcam up and running. If you need further help I could ask our admin how he got it working? Can you upload documents to the Video Presentation? This does not work for me but it may be because I have an older version of kulturaCE. Could you give the the ID that is called?

Thanks Smith, also my video presentation don't work. Not only the button in moodle module don't work but also after tried all the id in kaltura db I haven't found the right flash.
Thanks for your suggestion about red5, but now I've other problem with the installation. With xampp 1.7.3 the system don't create the admin user, I don't know why.
For the moodle modules I hope some suggestions or explain from core team.

Thanks to all for the collaboration. Now my moodle, webcam and kaltura CE work fine except for the presentation. I've looked today that inside the php that some code was "commented", probabilly is for this reasons that the add document buttons don't work, but also I'm a little bit sure that the powerpoint module is not included in the CE version.
I don't know if the module is used with the kaltura free on the public website it work or not.
I think that in future we can try also this module and many other for example the integration with moodle wiki or for example as a test or also as a block widget.
From now I want to try some training experiments with my trainers and teachers and unterstand where they like to use it.

Hi,

We are currently looking around to fix the problem with the powerpoint module.

Does anybody have new hints? We guess that is not a problem due to the Kaltura CE version.

We also saw that the feature is working on the demo website under http://moodle.kaltura.org/

We let you know if we have incoming news. We are planning a product presentation and we think that is a nice feature to show.

the assignment resource type is not displayed correctly in Activities Drop Down when I installed Kaltura under Moodle 1.9.6+. The display says 'Video' when it is installed under Moodle 1.9.7+.
When I tried adding Kaltura video from the Activities drop down menu, the next page says "Section Error!". Any idea how to fix that?

Perhaps, you forgot any steps, look at step 3 or 4.

After trying to install the moodle plugin, I receive a message that the module is unreadable and I need to check permissions. I changed the permissions to 777 for the folder, but it is still not working. Can you advise? I would really like to check it out.

Here's the exact message: Module "alpha_0.95" is not readable - check permissions

It looks to me like you haven't fully extracted the files. If you have just copied aplha_0.95 to the mod directory that is not right. Use your extraction programme e.g. 7 zip to open the file alpha_0.95 in the directory of the same name. It will then create a series of folders and files for you to copy over.

I've been doing some snooping around on the PPT uploader function. The button source isn't supposed to work.

the build looks like this:

<div style="width: 140px; float: left; text-align: center; margin-top: 10px;" id="flashContainer">
      <script>...(Make Thumbnails)</script>
          <span>
                <input type="button" value="Upload Document." id="btn_uploaddoc">
                <span id="divKalturaKupload" style="border: 0px solid black; position: relative; top: -20px; width: 110px;">
                    <embed height="25" width="110" wmode="transparent" allownetworking="all" allowfullscreen="TRUE" allowscriptaccess="always" ....>
                </span>
         </span>
</div>

so you can see the button doesn't even have an onClick value- and the span right below it has a relative top position of -20 pixels. So the "embed" in that span is supposed to have the pop-up, not the button. I still haven't fixed it yet, but I think that the missing in config_plugins for video_presentation:

We also tried this fix, however we had no luck with the KalturaCE version.

We deployed kUpload to the server and did accesible via ui_conf, however we didn't get it running.

On the other side, it is working well with the SAAS solution, you could see it at this demo .

I also wrote several posts about without successful response. You can take a look at 1, 2, 3 or 4.

I have recently installed both kaltura and Moodle and the Katura plugin for Moodle on a Linux test server at home before deploying it to our College moodle site.

After some tweeking and changing the values in the mysql moodle config plugins database as detailed in earlier posts, everything is working, OK there is a problem with buttons beign off screen and needing to scroll, but these are minor problems to me.

The one big problem I can't get to work or find sollution for is when using Video Remixer. Everything uploads and encodes fine, I can then drag into timeline. But, nothing shows up in the preview screen and after clicking 'Save & Publish, nothing happens, the page just hangs.

I have included an image and also I get the follwing error message from IE:

Webpage error details:

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0)

I looked at the file, the php looks fine to my novice eye, it must be the code that is generated that is at fault. Could this error cause the preview screen error?

Anyway, I hope this can be fixed as I plan to demo this to teaching staff next week! If not, I will only show them single uploads, which is working fine.

Could the Admin please sort out the spam filter, it will not allow image upload or me to post error logs that may help in solving problems, or can somebody point me to a forum that does not have such a dumb spam filter?

As it is this is almost unusable, which is a shame.

I had solved this problem, you should type in the playerIn you created in your own server's "studio" page. once you key in the playerIn there your moodle can connect to Kaltura and play to video, which you can search the playerid in databae: kaltura->ui_conf and copy to ,database: moodle->mdl_config_plugin
