I have been watching Kaltura with great interest for at least 4 months now. I created an account and installed the open source edition on a server. I was hoping to eventually implement it on the web site of the company I currently do design for. Unfortunately, besides a lot of marketing noise and Kaltura going to different business/open source shows, there has been virtually no progress in the commercial or open source edition of Kaltura development that I can see. The software is still at version 1.5beta since I first installed it. So, is there going to be a new release soon, any updates on the hosted side etc? Any more and better player designs? More complete feature set? (need the video rating included with the player etc).

Promise everything, deliver nothing --- this is the Kaltura motto.
The latest promise was to deliver the new version of Kaltura by the end of the year. Did not happen.
Since the beta version is very buggy and the update is nowhere on the horizon, should we call it a vaporware?

Certainly not vaporware :-) , although with your permission I would love to adopt the term!
Yes, you are correct - we were scheduled to launch our new release at the end of December, and were a little delayed by infrastructure work on our core delivery platform.
However, the new version is very much alive, with some awesome new functionality, and is currently being slowly deployed and implemented by a test group of clients and users.
And no, it is not the Kaltura motto to promise and not deliver. In fact, as an insider I can tell you we not only deliver on our promises, we exceed them, but sometimes "life gets in the way" as we say, when client needs and infrastructure work cause slight delays.
I am positive that in the coming weeks you will be able to see that promise realizing for yourself.

Thanks for your comment. The answer is YES, ABSOLUTELY. We have the next versions in the works at the moment, including the release of the enterprise edition - definitely the next step for the community edition. Stay tuned - some exciting things are on their way...
